Like a robot from 1984
Jul. 2nd, 2006 06:49 amI am spamtastic tonight, obviously. But I just remembered something that was on the news the other day.
J.K Rowling has officially said that two characters will die at the end of HP 7. And I just wanted to speculate...I would imagine one will be Voldemort. And the other...well, I'm sure the publishers etc would love everyone to think its going to be Harry. And I could totally see it being that way actually - he's always been the tragic hero and what's more tragic than dying to save the Wizarding World from the forces of evil? He'll be immortalised even more than he is just for living in the first place.
Last year, when HBP was released, there was an interview and Rowling was asked whether she'd ever be tempted to write more after his school years. The amswer was a very emphatic 'No' and then she added, 'You're assuming he survives.' I mean, they're certainly going out there to let it seem as though killing him is a definite possibility. Why else would she be so adamant that there'll never be another Harry Potter book afterwards? She's always said that.
In some ways, I think killing him would be the right ending. On the other hand, the kid deserves a break and seeing as these are books aimed vaguely in the general direction of children, I find it a bit hard to believe that she'll actually do it.
So my thoughts - Ron or Hermione will bite it. Because then Harry is victorious and saves the world at large, but suffers immense personal loss. Children get to see that while good should triumph over evil, evil will still hit you where it hurts most.
I think it'll be Ron. He's always been a bit closer to Harry - plus, with the Ginny angle...what's the betting that the book closes with Harry having dinner at the Burrow or something. Something that lets the reader know that he's not hated and he'll probably end up marrying Ginny and happy ending through grief blah blah blah.
And I hope it's that because then I'll definitely write HP fic - tortured post-break-up-with-Ginny, reluctant celebrity lonely angsty!boy fic. That'd be cool. And only a year to wait to see! Joy.

Date: 2006-07-03 12:02 am (UTC)Yeah, Snape. Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about that. I do think he's good and that he had a deal with Dumbledore to kill him if it became necessary, like it was. So, I guess so. Will make him a good tragic flawed hero, though BOO, I want one of the trio to at least get maimed.
Methinks Lupin and Tonks will get a Happy Ever After. Awww.

Date: 2006-07-03 07:40 pm (UTC)Writing Harry Potter fanfic in general? No, not for me. I would always try to imitate Rowling:s style, it's always good to practise, but no. Your stories... I am always reading them. ;)
