No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to rock

Just watching an interview with Daniel Craig and seen some clips of the new Bond movie. First can I say, Daniel is hot. As if there was any doubt. But I am slightly worried about the movie now.
Perhaps anyone into Bond has already heard of this part of the plot. But I am not sure that using Vesper as a device for basing the film off is really a good idea. Revenge for her death? JUST NO. That is not what Bond does. In the books, he falls in love sometimes, with various women. Hell, with Vesper he was going to leave the Service for her, marry her, everything. But Casino Royale ends with him referring to her as a bitch and she is never ever mentioned again. Why would you then stretch everything and make Bond into something he isn't by having him dwell over her?
It's not unlike him to avenge the death of a woman he cared for. But the point about Vesper was that she was revealed as a traitor and that's why he ended up hating rather than loving her. Don't get me wrong, I like seeing Bond as a bit more human than he is often portrayed but not to this extent.
Anyway. I may be wrong. It was only a clip I saw so maybe it's only a small part of the film. But it didn't look like it. Hmph. I'm sure it will still be awesome; the stunts and locations and (schwing!) Daniel Craig look awesome. As long as they're good I will mostly be happy.
ETA: Also, I don't like the sequel-esque thing going on with it. Every Bond movie should stand alone. I do not want continuity, especially based around a love affair with a dead chick.
And thanks to everyone who commented on Evie's photos, sorry if I haven't replied personally. I have been distracted by her being pretty ill the last few days - first trip to the hospital, woohoo! But she's fine now, happy as anything. :)
**SPOILERS**
Date: 2008-10-24 11:07 pm (UTC)But these are set at the beginning aren't they? So, he's not quite as hardened yet...maybe, I think.
From what I can gather from reviews is that he's all pissed at Vesper, so he tries to find the company that the guy who killed Vesper works for, he then realises the shit storm he has walked into and it becomes a revenge/find out what's going on kinda thing.
I heard that this one ends where the next film will take off. Tracking down more to do with this company. But yeah, I agree...Bond was never a 'smart' thriller kind, it was just action/comedy. You could watch it and enjoy it ...and then leave the cinema thinking you're James Bond! :D:D
Re: **SPOILERS**
Date: 2008-10-24 11:14 pm (UTC)And yeah, these films are set at the beginning - but so was the book of Casino Royale. It was the first one written and it does a fine enough job setting up future!Bond - if you read them in sequence, we can see him becoming harder and can see that it started with Vesper. But he did not go looking into her situation - he cut her from his mind entirely. Which is what Bond does, which is why this plotline doesn't sit well with me at all. BAH!
