And yeah, these films are set at the beginning - but so was the book of Casino Royale. It was the first one written and it does a fine enough job setting up future!Bond - if you read them in sequence, we can see him becoming harder and can see that it started with Vesper. But he did not go looking into her situation - he cut her from his mind entirely. Which is what Bond does, which is why this plotline doesn't sit well with me at all. BAH!
