This is a little weird for me. Strange perhaps, as I was only six when the plane was blown up and have no memories of it happening at all. But...I have a friend in New York, with whom I went through quite a lot. And a lot of it stemmed from the fact that his two sisters - one of whom was his twin - were killed on that flight.

It just makes me think about how some people blow off terrorism and couldn't care less, because their lives only revolve around themselves (if you don't know any people like this, be glad of it). I'd like to put them in a room with someone who's suffered from it, let them see the long-lasting effects, and see if they come out the same person. Sad thing is, a lot of them probably would.

Very often, I find it so, yes. Not always, but sometimes. *nods*

This whole affair pisses me off and actually makes me ashamed I'm Canadian. It should not have taken 21 fucking years for the government to call an inquiry. I'm highly skeptical that they'll be able to determine anything this late in the day. It's so sad, the victims and their families deserve much better than this. :-(

My parents are of that sort. Not completely insensitive, but they always skim over the news -- "Iraq was bombed again? Well, duh!" -- and it annoys me that they couldn't care less about other people's lives. I know what you're saying, and it bothers me too.

... I didn't want to tag this post with whining since it is serious and meaningful and introspective, but.

I couldn't find your email. *headdesk*

Hm, there is an appropriate quote concerning this: "The only thing that we learn from history is that we actually don't learn anything from it." It's from Mark Twain I think. But yeah, if we want to see it like this, than life is a tragedy in general and there are only a few things which make our lives worth living and the world worth existing. Nevertheless I refuse to think that way. Hope that we'll eventually be able to learn from our mistakes, to genuinely care about other people's lifes but I don't know...
