...and damn, now I can't remember what show that phrase is from and it's going to annoy me.

Jack stared at Ryan from where he stood in front of his desk, face cold and trying to think of a way to get the man to bend on this. Ryan was being his usual self, of course, and while he could deal with that most of the time – this was not the situation for messing around.
‘I’m not jerking you around. If we don’t send a team in now, the whole thing could get out of control. We don’t have time to try negotiation.’
Ryan stared right back at Jack, unmoved. As far as he was concerned, Bauer was just being his usual cowboy self. There was no indication that things were going to go south.
‘Do you know something I don’t, Jack?’
Jack paused. ‘...no.’
Ryan nodded with an unamused expression. ‘Then we wait. You can put a team on standby, but I’m not having you going in all guns blazing.’
Jack looked like he was going to say something else, then didn’t, and simply walked out of the room. And a couple of hours later when the negotiator had sorted the situation out without bloodshed, he had the grace to tell Ryan that he’d been right. Ryan accepted the comment with a simple nod, but that didn’t stop him smiling a little when he was back in the privacy of his office.

catch22girlClandestine meetings were nothing new, but this one was different. Jack waited in his car, the hammering rain on the windshield and roof lulling him into a quietness he knew he couldn’t afford.
Two months already and this had become a habit. It had occurred to him that morning as he’d automatically reached for his phone to call her before work. When the realization had hit, he’d dropped the thing like it was on fire, staring at it as though it was laughing at him. When had it become alright to phone another woman when he should be calling Teri or Kim?
He had called though, to set up this meeting. She thought it was going to be the start of another long night of passion – but no. If he wanted his life back, he had to start removing problems. So tonight was different. As he saw Nina running from her car to his though, covering her head with her jacket to fend off the rain, Jack couldn’t help feeling a pang of regret – one he hated even more because he couldn’t even tell himself it was small. And as she sat beside him and leaned in for a kiss, he added that reason to the list of why this meeting had to be different.
And no, I haven't forgotten about the 28 flavours M'ways drabble. Will get to that ASAP, ayuh.
