24 Season 5
Jan. 17th, 2006 05:25 pmJust got done watching episode 4 of the new series...cut for spoilers of first four eps, and one for a future ep...
LOGAN I LOVE YOU!
A controversial statement, I'm sure. Maybe it would be more fair for me to scream that I love Gregory Itzin, who plays him because fairly obviously, the President is a bit of an asshat. Still, I like that he's not an uncaring asshat - he really seemed horrified by the murder of innocents and I think it's a fair shout to assume that most normal leaders would have a few qualms about whether they were doing the right thing, signing a treaty that would mean the immediate death of sixty people. Sure, in the long run more lives would be saved by an anti-terrorism treaty but the in-your-faceness of sixty murdered people and all the blood and body bits...bound to give a few thoughts of OMG!
I also find he and his wife cute together, even if he is rather patronising and she's nuts.
He also gets props for the best line of the first four eps in my opinion. 'Then. Talk. Faster!' to Bill on the phone in Ep 3. I cried with laughter, that was ace.
MARTHA WHY ARE YOU STOCKARD CHANNING?
Blatant rip off of The West Wing? I don't know - I don't know the actress but her voice and even her looks sometimes definitely remind me of Abby from TWW. But I don't care, because whoever she is, she's a great actress and I really dig the character. Is it just me or is it So. Frustrating when there's a character that has important information but no one will listen to them? It makes me want to scream but at the same time, the build in tension is awesome.
WALT! YOU SLIMY FUCKER!
Yeeeeaah we all knew you were a git when you tried to kill the man at the end of the last season. I like that the mole this year is not in CTU - a White House Staffer mole this year! That's different, unless you count Sherry. Oh, and Stanton in S2. Were there any others? I forget. I'm LOVING Novick again though, he rocks everything.
HOBBITS IN CTU!
Chappy Mk II. Is pretty much all I have to say, although Lynn does seem to be a bit more...I dunno, just Chloe-like almost. Wants protocols done by the book, and checked and everyone to do a good job - but bad timing and Chloe-esque social skills, although maybe not quite as bad. Chappy-esque in his by-the-book way of working though...meh. See how he goes.
THE THREE STOOGES
Chloe...is less Chloe-like this year. Better with people. I like her more I think, but she doesn't make me laugh as much. She's also going easier on Edgar, which is nice.
Edgar is a sweetie and awwwww, he really seems to crush on her. Bless.
Spencer? Seems OK. Hasn't had too much to do after the whole 'Get yer coat love, you've pulled' atmosphere of Ep 1 - he seemed full of himself, and pretty arrogant. But hey, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Cute too. Mmmm yis.
TOCHELLE
Michelle? Yeah, I quite liked you in past seasons. See ya.
Tony? I predict a tearful reunion with yourboyfriend best mate next week, when Jack gets to CTU. Because obviously that was the best place to do surgery on a guy, but whatever. I'm totally fine with it, heh. Yes yes, I know. I would be. So sue. Hopefully the pretty face won't be scarred up too badly and he'll be able to kick some ass and take some names with Jack later on in the series.
SILVER FOX
Bill, I love you. You sexy devil. That is all.
HUXLEYS
Dude, Derek is an unattractive crier. Which I approve of, because seriously, who cries prettily? There was snot and everything when he thought he was going to die. Yaysnot! His mother is pretty and I like that if she and Jack really were knocking boots, they didn't give him some twenty year old bimbo and make it cheesy. She actually looks pretty down to earth and that's the type of woman I could see Jack going for. Y'know, if he has to be with a woman at all.
ASSHOLE
Oh yeah, sorry, Audrey. Feh. Whatever. I'm steeling myself for the inevitable face-to-face coming up but I will scream if they actually have she and Jack getting back together. If he has any sense - or indeed, self-respect - he'll tell her to fuck off. She ditched him when he needed her most and ugh. Just no. Thankfully she's not be on screen much so far. I think this will change. Unfortunately.
REALLY EX-PRESIDENT NOW
Palmer. OK, so I knew you were biting it. And strangely, I didn't feel that sad. You have been replaced in my affections by Logan, because he makes me laugh more. Yes, I am that shallow.
...OK, not really. Day-vid, you rocked but your time was up. I like that they brought Wayne back for a while too, that gives a nice sense of continuity about things.
If I hadn't read a spoiler, I think his death would have impacted me more. Because it didn't really - until Jack saw the body anyway. The close up on the hand really emphasised everything they've gone through together and yeah, that was sad. Jack's reaction was sad. So...I am sad. But ready to move on. Because the more I think about S4, the more I don't like it that much. Time to move onto new Presidents that can make a hash of it. And hey, at least with Logan he deserves all the shit he causes. I can adore him and laugh at his crapness at the same time. Awesome.
...JACK?
What can I say? He's Jack. He seems a little different, which is good. Murdered the guy that murdered Palmer - I approve. He's a little colder, but the way he was with Derek at the end, giving him a hug...he's still Jack. Just buffeted by life and dealing as best he can; sinking his teeth into the problem and trying to fix things - it'll be an interesting ride to see where things take him. The only other thing I know about this season, I think, is that Kim'll be back for a time. That's a reunion I want to see. Badly. There'll be tears all round and I bet she slaps him or something. Heh, cool.
OVERALL?
Awesome start. And it occurs to me that I don't have the slightest idea what the actual threat is this year. Nor do I care - it's all about how people deal with having Jack back, and how he deals with it, that interests me. The action has kicked ass though - has anyone else wondered about what the Chinese reaction to all this will be? It might turn out that they still want him when they find out that he's not dead and I don't see Logan sparing him any more than he was going to a year ago. Twenty hours to go though and anything could happen - it's gonna be a blast, I think! Given that I didn't get excited about the season until it actually started airing in the US, I'm happy that it's going well.
In other news - why can I not persuade myself to go to bed? I really piss myself off sometimes. Gah!
And after that long-winded diatribe, I'll shut up. :)

Date: 2006-01-17 07:23 pm (UTC)Sadly? I wished that Beresh tormentd him more, because really, a Jack restrained and on his knees? Um, yeah, anyway...
I <3 Logan and Martha. Logan is just such a wimp ass but I love him. I hate Walt. I haven't hated a character like this...in quite a while. But I hate him. I want him to die hideously. Hopefully slowly, maybe stabbed by one of Martha's shoes.
I love Bill too. I wish that Diane had a little more of a role, but I can see why she and Jack would be together and why he'd be attracted to her. Also the whole family thing.
YES! Kim and Jack reunion, OMG. I bet she slaps him too, I was telling people, I so want her to slap him and then hug him tightly.
Jack? Self-respect? Sense? Are we talking about the same man, here? I think she'll make a play for him, maybe, but I have no idea about his reaction.
Spencer's all kinds of cute. But I don't trust him.

Date: 2006-01-17 09:40 pm (UTC)Kim and Jack will just be SQUEEEEE! For me anyway, I doubt there'll be much squeee'ing going on from Kim's side of things anyway. Have we any idea what ep that's happening in?
*bouncebounce* It's gooooood!

Date: 2006-01-17 09:49 pm (UTC)Definitely props to the actor. He really seemed terrified and awww, only fifteen in the show. Poor Derek must've been a basketcase and the actor did a great job showing it. *must learn actors name*

Date: 2006-01-18 04:07 am (UTC)Actually I thought Jack seemed a little less cold this season. The hostage situation seemed to rip him a bit, coming right on the heels of Palmer's assassination. Still kicking ass though.

Date: 2006-01-20 08:58 pm (UTC)LOVE the Logans! I really, really do love Charlie, he's great!
Lynn...hmm, well, for starters, talk to Bill like that again and i'm afraid you're gonna have one of those lovely blue chairs up your arse! and I never realised Seasn Astin sounded like a 10 year old boy.
I'm sure i'm in the VERY small minority, but I think Bill/Audrey are VERY attractive around one another......
And I also have no clue as to what is going on!! *pats back* i'm also spoiler free. Yay.
