Dec. 13th, 2005 10:35 pmOK, you know you have a sad life when there's nothing better to post in your journal than fucking memes. Ah well. Better than ranting about stuff I guess.

Date: 2005-12-13 11:32 pm (UTC)Put simply - I adore it. American politics fascinate me and wneh it's in a seting like that, with brilliant dialouge and instantly likeable characters, I can't get enough of it. Jed is the President every country ahould have (or Prime Minister, in my case) - someone who actually wants to make things better. And the staff are dedicated and intelligent and they care - but they're not perfect either, they fuck up both personally and professionally and have to deal with the consequences of that.
Jed's my favourite character though - he's noble, yet he's got this huge ego (size of Montana, apparently, heh), and he tries so hard and yet he makes mistakes...and underneath it all, he's a family man. And he makes mistakes there too, but loves his girls and keeps on trying. Mainly though, I love him because there's this theme of lonliness at the top. He's a genius, but it sets him apart, and the issues with his father are fascinating. The episode where Toby challenged him in the Oval Office with 'Your father didn't like you very much, did he Mr. President?' - OMG! And he had to see the shrink because of it! I died for him, just died.
Other characters - the banter between all of them is inspired. Josh and Donna? I cry with laughter. Same with Josh and Sam, when he was around - I miss Sam so much. I adore Leo, his past history with drink and drugs is brilliance - this war hero, being so human. *loves*
CJ is just - God, can't say enough good things about her. They've probably all been said elsewhere though, so I don't need to go into it. Toby is beyond fabulous, with his wit and the way he's so dour - but so dedicated, such a perfectionist and he brings the realism to any situation they're in. And yet is still so human - 'My kids have heads!' *SQUISH*
So...yeah. The show in general is so well written (bear in mind I've only seen up to S4 and I know S5 is supposed to suck. I still want to watch it, though I'm nervous about after 6 when Jed is pretty much gone). There's so much potential for Sues and Stus there - but they avoided it, by having Bartlet be an unpopular President to start off with. He was never this guy that the majority of the people adored, never even that popular in the Democratic party. And all the first season, they were making all these mistakes - and you just can't help but love them more for it.
Yes. The West Wing? Is love. It - and this may be sad to admit, but I'm going to anyway - inspired me to get more interested in politics in general, and after getting more interested, I now study it at University. Granted, I always had an interest, but it was more abstract. TWW made me look at things more closely. So. OK, will stop fangirling now but needless to say - total love.
And now I need to go make icons, damnit. How come I don't have any? Bizarre!! :D :D :D

Date: 2005-12-14 08:12 pm (UTC)Basically it started because my hair is horrendeously thick and completely uncontrollable when it's just been washed. So I used to stick a hat on it to keep it under control. Now that it's crazily long and thick and curly, I just wear one pretty much all the time to keep it sane. And because I have no clue what to do with it!
My favourite is a Reebok beanie. But I can wear cowboy hats, though I rarely do, I like bandanas and I've got this cute little denim hip-hop one that I got in Harlem as well. And my Kangol one, like Samuel L. Jackson wears and any number of baseball caps...yep, just love 'em! :D

Date: 2005-12-18 10:24 am (UTC)But it was always a treat - one of our birthdays? Go skating. Something to do in the school holidays etc, and near Christmas. And I always promised myself I'd get my own skates some day and now I do - a badass pair of hockey skates I picked up in LA last year. But I still suck at it, lol. Still, good memories - it was one of the first things I did when I went to spent Christmas in New York a few years ago, hit the open air rink in Central Park. Frickin' fantastic! *is nostalgic*
