...History, Politics and Creative Writing is a perfectly acceptable degree, right?

Heh.

YES! I just...hope I don't suck at it. I've only ever written stuff for fun and have no clue of how to actually study it. Mind you, I suppose that's what they're getting paid to teach me. So. :D?

Of course it is. I was a Classics' major with a minor in British Literature, study what you love.

*nodnod* That was the whole idea, this go-round at Uni. Study what I actually want to. I'm just nervous about it because while History and Politics is a walk in the park, Creative Writing is pretty unstructured (groups, presentations, discussion etc) and I've never studied like that before. Well, not with any success, anyway. So, I guess I'll just go give it my shot and hope for the best. :)

The creative writing courses I've done always felt fairly structured, so there are obvious assignments to do. It is a completely different way of thinking about writing. I hope the professors are good since so much about creative writing classes depends on who's teaching it and how.

My current degree is a mix of ooh this is interesting and this will help me be a librarian.

Well that's my issue with myself - I want to write properly, eventually, but I do need to get a degree in something that'll help me get a good job later. Hence the history and politics (I do love them too). I should really have paired them with Law or Criminology or similar, for the most compatible mixes, but damnit, I want to write as well. So I'll indulge for this year and then stick to the serious stuff for the remaining two years.

You already write properly, but those kinds of courses can be good for learning the language of talking about writing.

I will always promote librarianship since it works for me in terms of combining fun stuff and getting me a job after I graduate.

Ha, thanks. I try to tell myself I don't suck and then get blown out of the water by random fic I come across. Still, any formal education in the subject certainly can't do any harm and it'll give me a kick up the butt to get on with my original stuff too.

...I so bet I end up as a librarian or similar. And would probably be quite happy with it too. :)

I sort of fell into librarianship since its something I've kind of done before as a volunteer and things. Now I feel rather more official.

Oh yes, fic online can be so intimidating, that's why I don't tend to post my stuff around that much. I know how awesome folks on my flist are, the rest of the world is scary. Doing Yuletide last year was my first step towards really putting myself out there more.

If you're interested in library stuff, it can be a good university job since libraries like helpers.

And I am the complete opposite, wherein I write something and can't not post it to the world at large. It's just that I then come across fics and say, 'man, I wish I wrote that' and discourage myself due to others being awesome. Feh. We all have our insecurites.

And dude, I hadn't thought of that. Hmm. I will have to see if they have any jobs going in the Library up there. I suspect someone might need to be qualified to get a job, because it's a big reseach library but hell, they must need someone to stamp the books out, right?

Well, I post on my journal and I adore filling prompts for people. Its more sharing things outside of the world of my flist, though I'm doing more.

Qualification depends on the job, reference librarian needs more than a shelver or person in circulation.

Oooh, that sounds interesting. Bio medical photography? Like...taking photos of medical stuff?

Also, how are ya mate? Long time no speak. What you up to?

Of course it's perfectly acceptable. Do whatever feels right.. where are you going to apply?

I am totally looking forward to it!

And I already got a place at Lancaster, to do History and Politics. You have to do a third subject in your first year though and while there are loads of others that fit better, Creative Writing's the only one that actually gets me excited. As I do, actually, want to be a writer some day. So.
