I hear their scenes together are smokin'. :D

(It was fabulous! I always enjoy writing off of you.)

Just as they should be! :D

(As I do you, mate They should definitely talk again. :D)

Precisely. Although it's so, so hilarious to see them on the same screen because I can't help but picture them as their Milliways counterparts.

(Absolutely!)

It's always bizarre to me to see JdA do other roles where he's not a complete bastard, and I'm sure seeing him talking to 'Saffron' will be odd as hell! But hopefully in a v.entertaining way.

(:DDD!)

I caught him guest-spotting on a show recently and clapped my hands together out of glee and recognition. :D

(Any time, fo sho!)

Omfg mate, I just started watching this. *stares at*

Yeah. Awesome. Guh.

Also, weird! And this is the first time I've Christina Hendricks in anything and she is brilliant.

I am going to watch it all in one sitting tomorrow. Loving it so far. Though I may never recover from seeing Ramon do things with food. He doesn't cook! It is too weird! *stares at more*

Dude. she is amazing in Firefly and Mad Men, if you ever decide to check those out. :D

HEE. I pretty much just skipped through the movie to watch their scenes. They were the most captivating part for me.

(Also: I will have you know that I plan to actually watch both Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes thanks to you. ;D)

You should know that I am actively working to toss Joan in Gene's direction now. ;)

EEEE YAY! I do so love turning people towards LoM and Ashes. For they are epic and wonderful. And I can safely say that no matter how much people like my Gene in the bar, he is nowhere near as utterly fabulous as the real thing. So enjoy! I am very envious of you, I wish I could be discovering it for the first time all over again. *ushers you towards DVDs or similar immediately* Let me know what you think of them, please!

And also yay, Joan! LMAO, I can't see it being anything other than carnage, especially if he's in a good mood.

I mean, I was already leaning towards it thanks to the epic OOMs of epic that have already been posted in the bar, but then I finally just decided to go ahead and cave already. John Simm has owned a piece of me since Doctor Who, anyway, and I am a sucker for police procedural-type shows in any form, really, so I have a feeling these shows are going to hit a number of my buttons. You will probably be bombarded with reactions as they come, so beware!

Mostly I just want him to think he's going crazy. ;) But also I think it would be great fun.

From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
Ooh, you've read them? Hurrah! Lol, I didn't know if anyone was but I just can't stop writing them. Omg, you must watch them before we get to the end of S3 of Ashes, so the final reveal is not ruined.

Although...if you've read his userinfo, it is anyway. Nevermind! But! I heartily recommend staying as unspoilered as it's possible to be. And if you like police procedural type shows? You will love it. It is amazing in so many hilarious and heartbreaky ways.

Please bombard me with reactions as much as you like! Even if you end up hating it. I recommend it so hard to everyone and no one has done anything but love it yet, so I feel confident that it'll work for you too. But! If you don't like it, then you don't.

And yes, he will be very confused. Which is always funny. If Gene is confused by people he just insults them harder. *loves him*

From: [identity profile] austen.livejournal.com
Of course! You know I adore you and Flynn anyway, so I always love to see what the two of you come up with between the characters you bounce off each other.

Unfortunately, I sort of wound up spoiled about the LoM/AtA universe (bah!) but that doesn't mean I'm not curious to find out exactly how that particular infomation is going to play out within the story! :D As far as I'm concerned, I'm watching it with character development in mind since I already vaguely know how things are going to end.

Ahaha. Luckily for us (or me, or whatever), our Joanie doesn't get easily ruffled when it comes to male insults. Then again, she's never particularly understood the Brits, so his choice phrases may just end up leaving her completely confused.

BOOOO! I was so gutted when Lynn got spoiled as well, right after apping Sam. But no matter! The journey won't be any the worse for it - I can guess which bit of information you have, if you know the nature of the 'verse (and dude, it was a hell of a surprise watching in real time, having spent five years enjoying Gene as just a copper). And it'll still be awesome for ya. :D

*snicker* This must happen, and soon.

Heee. Is it bad that, after seeing only one episode, I'm already drawn to Annie, RP-wise? She kind of reminds me of Zooey Deschanel with those blue blue eyes.

I agree! :D

Date: 2010-08-10 03:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
OMG NOT BAD AT ALL. DOOOOOO ITTTTTTTTTTTT! *glee!*

We must get a full cast. Oh fuck yeah. :D!

Date: 2010-08-10 04:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] austen.livejournal.com
I'd have to watch more episodes, obviously, and wait until next apps, and someone would have to be deleted to make room (always a dilemma), butbutbut. :D

From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
Saw that you said to Lynn you were on S2 mate. How're you liking it?

Also, hi! :D

Date: 2010-08-13 01:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] austen.livejournal.com
It's fabulous! Technically, I'm only onto episode one, but I really liked how they handled S1, so I'm excited to see where things go from there. Also, I love Gene. ;D

Hi!

Date: 2010-08-13 01:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
Yay for fabulous! Am v.v.v. glad you like it. And lol, how would it be possible for anyone to not love Gene? He is marvellous. :D!

I can't decide if I love S2 more than S1. In my mind, they sort of meld into one long string of awesome. I can certainly say that the quality doesn't drop at least, so no worries there.

From: [identity profile] austen.livejournal.com
He's abrasive and hilarious and surprisingly charming at times (I will never get over the scene where he hightailed it in reverse out of the one-way street with the food stuffed in his mouth). :D I totally see how he weasled his way into your head.

Oh, fabulous. And I'm excited to see what happens with Sam and Annie, because they are toying with me with this back-and-forth between cuteness and uber angst.

the_gene_genie: (LoM - Bacon Sarnie)
From: [personal profile] the_gene_genie
Ah, the bacon sarnie. Awesome personified. :D!

Christ, he didn't even have to weasel. I was watching the DVD's and remembered that someone said they were thinking of apping Sam once. And I thought to myself, 'could I play Sam?' and then slapped myself on the forehead because hello, Gene's the man. And I couldn't work out why it hadn't occured to me three years ago. And since then, HE WON'T GO AWAY.

I love it.

And Sam and Annie are proper brilliant. Annie gets a hard time in fandom sometimes (because she gets in the way of the Sam/Gene slash, overwhelmingly the most popular pairing, natch) but I think she's brilliant. Because she doesn't take any of his shit but is really sweet too. Strong and clever and feminine as well. One of the few female characters I've ever really liked in TV. (I am not a female character person, sad to say.)

...and man, I can ramble on about this show forever. *shutting up now*

Date: 2010-08-13 01:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] notaphony.livejournal.com
YES. :D Probably one of my most favoritest Gene moments to date, though I know there are others.

I was talking to Cat about Annie on IM last night, and somehow it occurred to me that I always wind up picking strong female characters - strong female characters who often work in law enforcement in some capacity, too. If I go ahead and app Annie next go around, it'll take my women-kicking-ass-in-law-enforcement quota to, uh, four? Not that I have a type or anything. Of course. ;D

I do not mind the rambling, not one bit!

Date: 2010-08-13 01:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
Dude, the world needs more well-played, strong female characters! I approve of you picking this type, for you are awesome at it! And of course you don't have a type, just like I don't tend to love alpha males who are rude and loud and strong-willed, and either very bad or very good.

I subject far too many people to my ramblings on this sho, for real. Everyone is very patient. *loves you all*

Also, do you plan to watch Ashes as well? If so, I will say what I said to Flynn and Lynn also - the first ep is by far the worst. Don't judge it on that one. At times, I often find myself thinking its better than LoM. So...yeah. *recommends*

Date: 2010-08-13 01:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] notaphony.livejournal.com
:D Apparently I am the go-to for that brand of character. Not that I mind, of course. I'm just glad we've established where my real interests lie.

I'm sure we subject you to our own kind of ramblings. It's all quid pro quo up in here.

Of course I do! I'm just as excited to get to AtA - maybe even more excited, because I have mad love for the sexual-tension-between-partners dynamic.

Date: 2010-08-13 01:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
And I am very glad for canonmates that tend to like talking about it as much as I do! Really am v. lucky. *beams*

As for sexual tension...ahahaha. Omfg, off. the chart. It's a Thing throughout all three seasons, so I know its not just me seeing it. Flynn flailed about it constantly when she watched - and still does, actually! As do I, non-stop. We are both gagging to get to the end of canon in the bar so we can play with it more.

Man. Hot. *fans self*

Date: 2010-08-13 01:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] notaphony.livejournal.com
That's always a big bonus.

Oh, man. That means I'm going to be flailing up a storm when the time comes for me to make my way through the show. ♥

Date: 2010-08-13 01:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
Well, I know I did! 3x07 especially, Jesus Christ. I literally threw something at the TV because of it.

So yeah. Lol, I feel like I'm building it up now but seeing as fandom talked about little else through the whole run, I feel justified in mentioning it. :D

Date: 2010-08-13 01:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] notaphony.livejournal.com
Oh, man, that is so not fair to tease me like that. :P

Date: 2010-08-13 01:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
*snickers madly*

I was tortured for three years, watching this show as it was broadcast. I feel justified in teasing the people who get to rock through the whole thing in a couple of days. *sticks tongue out* :D!

Date: 2010-08-13 01:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] notaphony.livejournal.com
:D! I do want to finish LoM first before I get to the other show, so I'll be good. But being home sick yesterday and today is giving me a good opportunity to catch up and marathon some episodes one after the other.

Date: 2010-08-13 01:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
Oh, for sure, do finish LoM first! It is quality, obviously. And it does have bearing on Ashes, particularly S3. So.

I am sorry to hear you're sick, though! I didn't realise, and there's me gnawing your ear off. Feel better! <3!

Date: 2010-08-13 01:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] notaphony.livejournal.com
Will do, will do.

Oh, it's okay! RP and talking is actually proving to be a great distraction. I just can't work because I have no speaking voice and a pretty lousy cough, so I'm resting in bed and watching episodes and replying to the occasional tag.

Date: 2010-08-13 02:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
Aha, the sort of sickness that is incapacitating but doesn't make you feel like you're dying? I am vaguely envious. I could do with something like that come Monday. Blah to work.

Also, I feel I should apologise for Gene's rampant sexism. Except I can't because it's just him. He only half-believes most of it though, if it's any consolation for Joan. Come Ashes, he's practically a New Man.

...uh. Well, not really. But he stops treating women like beanbags, at least. If they're called Alex and he fancies them. >.>

Date: 2010-08-13 02:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] notaphony.livejournal.com
Exactly. I have to work tomorrow, but at least I'm by myself in the office so I won't be risking getting anyone sick.

Ahaha, she's used to it, obviously. Which is sad but true, in the world of Mad Men. ;D

Once Joan meets Alex, then she will understand.

From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
Work on a Saturday? Suck!

And dude, Mad Men just started showing over here. I'm pretty sure I saw an ad for it last week. And I knew there was a reason I should watch it but I couldn't think where I'd heard of it before. *makes note to find it*

And that? Is a thread I want to read, oh hell yeah. :D

Date: 2010-08-13 02:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] notaphony.livejournal.com
It's only three hours, so not so bad. And usually I end up leaving early.

Ooh, yes. :D Please do. And if you do, let me know what you think of it. I could always talk about that show too, for a variety of reasons that aren't Christina Hendricks (though her being in it vastly improves my viewing experience, because she is phenomenally delightful).

We'll have to arrange it!

Date: 2010-08-13 02:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
Work is always better when you leave early. *sage nod*

I was 100% right! Two eps have been shown and thank fuck for the BBC iplayer. *loves it* They're downloading right now. I shall talk about it once I've watched them.

Do! Please!

Date: 2010-08-13 02:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] notaphony.livejournal.com
Definitely. Especially since the last hour is just in case I'm bombarded with work, anyway, which is never the case on Saturdays.

EEE. :D Okay, yes, excellent. I always get excited when people start watching - or at least bother to check it out to indulge me.

Date: 2010-08-13 02:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
I have heard good things about it! I can't remember who else said it was good, but I've definitely read it somewhere. Also, is one of the blokes from it in the bar? I seem to remember someone getting apped and people squeeing over him, as he's cool and from a cool show and I think it was MM but could be completely wrong.

*is vague and not at all helpful*

Date: 2010-08-13 02:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] notaphony.livejournal.com
We had a Don Draper a while ago? But I don't think they're around anymore. Which makes me sadface, because Joan could definitely benefit from having some canonmates around.

Date: 2010-08-13 02:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fightingthecage.livejournal.com
Perhaps it was him. Idek. I suck at keeping up with shows that are popular at the moment, unless people are literally shouting about it in the street. But I shall watch MM with interest - Joan's quality and always entertaining, so she'll be worth watching at any rate. And to be fair to the BBC, if it weren't good they wouldn't have picked it up anyway. So. :D
