[livejournal.com profile] innerbrat would like me to pontificate on

I'm afraid I'm terribly boring in this catergory. I have no leanings towards the exotic - I love dogs. Dogs and horses.

The dog thing probably comes from having been around them forever. One of my earliest memories is walking my sister to school with our Red Setter, Kelly. He was gorgeous. Then there was Lucy, a cocker spaniel. She bit me in the face once (partly my own fault) but I loved her anyway. And after her, mother didn't want another one - but it was OK because my Grandma had a black lab, a gorgeous, friendly, dopey, thick as mince black lab called Bonnie. It's entirely possible that I've never loved anything in my life as much as that dog, before Evie was born at least. I saw her just about every day of my life from the age of five until I was 18. I played with her more than anyone because my mother and sister aren't the getting-on-the-floor-and-wrestling-around types, and my grandmother was pretty old by then. So she'd come to me to be played with and have a cuddle and we'd go for walks and she was perfect.

She died when my grandmother was away in Ireland for her 80th birthday. Mother and I were looking after her - one day her back legs just went from under her and she couldn't walk any more. Then she couldn't move anything except her head, which she would still shift onto my hand so that I'd pet her. After talking to my grandmother, we took her to the vets to have her put to sleep - it took less than half a cc of anasthetic to do the job, she was that close. I was devestated for a week.

I think I like dogs better than cats because of the cat I had when I was a kid too. He was called - very originally - Tom. He would shun us except for when wanting food and most of the time he would go and eat at Ray's, down the road from us. He could get fresh meat there. He was nice when we saw him and I did love him to bits but you just can't cuddle a cat like you can a dog, or play with them, and they've got far too much attitude. I think they're cute and I like stroking them but I don't think I'd bother getting one of my own again. I want dogs!

Horses are also my favourites because...I don't know. I started riding when I was two and even though I haven't done it for years, I can still go and play with Ex-Housemate Jen's whenever I want to and my Aunt has...fourteen I think, at last count. They're another animal that has just always been there. Holidays used to be spent riding horses in Wales with my cousins. I yearned for a horse of my own just like millions of other young girls do. I can't imagine not loving horses. They're ace. They have so much personality and can be mental but also way affectionate and they're fun to ride and a bit dangerous sometimes and all in all, are made of win.

I also quite like pretty fish.

There you go. Favourite animals. That's five minutes of your life you're not getting back. Mwhaha!
