I have a jigsaw! It's a Christmas one. It was so lush I couldn't resist. I almost bought this because I've wanted to do a 3D thingy for years but I couldn't think what I'd do with a Sphinx-like gold-painted head-of-Jack-Sparrow once I'd finished it, really, so I didn't. But it was on sale! So...I might go back and get it next week if I'm still this bored.

I also almost bought this jigsaw old-style globe which I saw in WHSmith, because it looks awesome, but I got the regular flat Chrimbo one instead because it was just too beautiful.

Am considering buying a tapestry to do. I used to love tapestry when I was a kid. Or, as [livejournal.com profile] wanttobeatree suggested, knitting. Used to do that too even though I could only do scarves and never learned how to...what's it called? I forget. Put the wool on the knitting needle. And take it off properly when the scarf was done. I always got my grandmother to do those bits for me...it's a slight problem that I can't actually wear wool as it irritates my skin but maybe you get wool that isn't...pure wool, these days. Maybe.

God. How depressing this all is. I desperately need to go out and get wasted, rock out to some good tunes and pull a fit guy. Hmpfh. I'll have to get right on that, yeah.

ETA: I've also been meaning to publically wtf for ages on the fact that GAP don't appear to have a UK website. I mean, what the hell is that about? Its my favourite store but there isn't one close by since they closed the one in Preston a few years ago...why is there no website for me to ogle? Why?

Ooooo jigsaw! I want to do one of those now!

However, since scribble is coming along soon, you might not have time to finish the knitting.

But jigsaw puzzle!

....that Jack Sparrow one's vaguely scary.

I am itching to start it. It's been years since I did one.

That Jack Sparrow...thing...is actually 120 little jigsaws all stacked up on top of each other. And then you paint it gold. I am so tempted to get it just because of the wtf of it but you're right. It is vaguely scary. And I'm not sure I'd want that staring at me from across the room.

There are a lot of wool blends and wool alternatives, though you might want to try a good pure wool to start. Depending how long ago you last had wool against your skin, it's gotten a lot softer. If there's a yarn store in your area, try fondling some of what they have; merino wool is the softest (oh God is it ever. *melts* I would totally get naked and roll around in that stuff). A lot of the wool-acrylic blends I've used aren't as soft as the pure merino wool, really.

If you do have an extra senstitvity to wool, there's also cotton, bamboo, silk, angora, mohair, alpaca (sooo soft), soy silk, sea silk (from seaweed proteins), others from corn and milk proteins and, of course, cashmere, as well as blends of two or more of the above. Though when you get beyond the basic wool and cotton, the others do start getting more expensive and a finer wool is going to cost a little more than a cheaper one. (Though I am a Yarn Snob, so I'm not sure I should say too much on what counts as "expensive". :>)

And casting on and casting off (beginning and ending) a piece of knitting is one of the things people are slower to learn just because you don't do them as often. Though knitting would definitely be something to keep your hands busy waiting for Scribble to arrive and for the rare moments once he or she is here.

See? You shouldn't have gotten me started! :D

I was hoping you'd see this entry, actually! I figured that if anyone would know, it'd be you. So thanks! :D I think I'll go find a store and see what's available. My skin is really picky about what it can stand next to it. I know cashmere is Ok though - heh, that's totally an excuse to knit with gorgeous soft stuff, right?

But yeah. I just sort of feel like it. And I really really need somethign to do. Thanks for the advice. :)

Yes! The editor/creator of the online magazing <a href="http://www.knitty.com</a>Knitty</a> is allergic to wool and she just published a book called "No Sheep For You" that uses all different kind of non-wool fibers. And actually there's a couple heavenly merino/cashmere blends that some British yarn manufacturers sell...

*checks it out* Awesome, thank you!

And also, hee! I love that you call it yarn. Over here its just 'wool' whether it has anything to do with actual wool at all. If it comes in a ball, its wool. Heh. We're such heathens.

Heh. There's a bit of that over here, too, though I think it's mainly non-knitters that do that, as knitters tend to be more specific. :D
