Am I the only one who thinks this Tony development is kinda awesome? Well, I do and for the reasons here bullet-pointed;
- it puts Jack against his friend/colleague/brother in pain and c'mon, we all love it when Jack has to make the toughest decisions. That's why S1 was so awesome.
- it's got us all hanging out for the next ep like mentalists. Think back to S6. Were any of us doing that? No.
- it gives Tony something to do other than follow Jack's orders/look angsty/occasionally save thousands of lives.
Anyway. I haven't seen any posts on my flist that raise the possibility that this might not be everything it seems. This is strange to me. Firstly, it's 24. Secondly, They need to keep things twisty for another six episodes. Thirdly, in that interview with Carlos being bandied about, he doesn't actually say Tony is really bad. Just that he knew this development was coming for a while. What was it that Hodges said? He was only a cog and there was a larger thing going on (isn't there always?). Tony's obviously part of that but we don't know for sure which side he's on. We also don't know for sure that he killed Larry. No silent clock (though I'm not sure he'd get one anyway, to be fair) and hell, we thought we saw Tony's corpse once but he still came back. We didn't see Larry at all after Tony finished smothering him.
(Sidebar: field!Larry is a dude I could totally get along with, if you know what I'm sayin'. Less suit, more flak jacket, hell yeah).
a) If Tony is really bad, I will fucking cheer. For real. Because he and Jack have paralleled each other for seven years now and gone through pretty much the same stuff. It makes sense for the writers to show both paths - one guy gets obsessively self-righteous and the other goes darkside. It would show properly how getting repeatedly screwed by the government can affect its guys. So really, I hope that Tony is bad, Jack doesn't get to kill him and Tony is back for S8 as a long-term nemesis that Jack really doesn't want to have to kill
b) Bad guys are more interesting. Not than Jack obv, but in general. Tony's angstface is starting to wear on me.
c) Dramatic tension! Yay!
Re Kim: oh em gee, I kind of love her right now. Maturity suits her! And augh, squishy!Jack. Fabulousness. Though I am totally ready for the stem cell treatment to be done and work now because it's obv going to happen (S8, anyone?) and I want Jack to be able to kick Tony's ass properly in the next few hours. Though I suppose they might have him going out in the field still sick and fail to kill Tony because of a seizure or whatever and have the treatment after the end of the...you know what, no. That would be dumb.
My money is on Kim going and doing her bit with the doctor and then going to Jack, 'I've taken the risk, deal with it, get better' etc because she is, after all, Jack's daughter and a stubborn little cow.
Bad!Tony! Yay!
And that's all I have to say about that.
ETA: I had a frightfully important and relevant point to make in all this but I forgot. Then it came back and I clicked 'edit' to put it in and then it went again. Stupid brain. Still, it would be a shame to waste a perfectly good open-for-editing post, right? Right.
Oh, and everyone should check out Susan Boyle. Amazing.
