fightingthecage: (MR - Party's Over)

Wtf is up with LJ at the moment? Won't send me notifications, is being really slow and often won't let me load pages, saying there's been a database error or something. Also, telling me my journal is in read-only mode and not letting me update. Drag.

So, yesterday was interesting. Not only was it a quieter Sunday than normal at work, I managed to hit a dude's car when I stopped for smokes coming off my break. This was right after finding out that yes, I have to move out of my house in January. Which is actually OK because yay! new place and the crash was as minor as it can be. I reversed into him at approximately 1mph and knocked a patch thingy off his bumper. Still had to exchange details but that's OK because he was totally nice and very hot, so its not like I mind too much. Just a minor inconvenience.

Then work was crap and I was in a mood, but whatever. And then...a bunch of us stayed after work and drank until about 02:00. As I had only eaten two chocolate bars yesterday, loading five pints of Kronenberg on top of that empty stomach was possibly not the best of ideas. I was fine when I left the pub but by the time I got home, I was so ill. This is the effect fresh air has on one when you've been drinking in a warm pub, for those of you out there too young to drink yet etc. Be mindful when you reach the legal age.

So anyway, that meant that today was also interesting in certain ways. eg, that I didn't get up for my breakfast shift at work this morning. Oops? And...missed college for the sixth straight day. On the upside, I did catch up on some much needed sleep. Got up to go to work this evening and told to go talk to the new assistant manager. Poor dude. It's his first day and he was was landed with the mess this morning when I didn't show. Which he can't have appreciated, given that he was also drinking until 2am. Conversation went something like this:

James: What happened this morning?
Moi: I was quite sick when I got home last night.
James: '....'

...did you not think to phone in?'
Moi: No. I'd left my phone in the car, hence me not having an alarm to wake me up. And then I had to go to college. (which I didn't do obviously, but he doesn't know that)
James: *describes mess of place this morning and situation* Then: 'Did you not think to phone in this afternoon to se if we still wanted you in this evening?'
Moi: It didn't occur to me that you wouldn't.
James: '....'

...the situation is, we don't need you in tonight.
Moi: OK. *internally celebrating like crazy*

And then he went on to say that he'd call me tomorrow when he'd spoken to the temporary manager and they'd probably want me to come in early tomorrow evening to talk to me etc. Whatever. I can cite a bunch of other times that the two chefs have not come in or missed shifts and this is the first time I've ever done it. If they try to tell me that they'll talk to the proper managers about me (who are away on holiday at the moment), I'll just point out that it was the two of them who kept the bar open that late - which is illegal, btw, as we don't have a late-opening licence - so they can't say a whole lot. La!

So, the evening turned out to be awesome. Housemate Jen and I did our usual Monday-night ritual of watching University Challenge and seeing how well we can do (average, tonight) and then devouring Spooks and lusting openly over Hot Adam for an hour, while stressing about the fact that he's obviously on his way out of the show. Boo! But at least Zaph is hot also. Americans, y'all should watch M:I5 for this reason alone. Hot Adam is...hot! And traumatized at the moment which is always awesome. It obviously borrows heavily from 24 but am I ever going to think that's a bad thing? Hell no.

K, I'll shut up now. Should crash soon also as I have to go to college tomorrow before they kick me out.

ETA: Apologies for double post there - as I said, LJ is being an asshole to me.
fightingthecage: (Books)

Went to college. Spent most of first lesson in my car (as I was about ten minutes late), smoking and listening to tunes. Then returned overdue library books - no fines, yay! - and went to sit down to do long overdue Hamlet essay that I intend to send off to Oxford at the end of the week.

...two pictures of AC/DC band members later, I went to get lunch then sat in English classroom for an hour, honing pictures.

Start of English (it appears I haven't been thrown out and a lot of other people missed last week too), given work to do so that teacher could mark the whole classes stuff together for once. Half an hour later I'm staring at a blank page and when teacher leaves the room, take the opportunity to do a runner and come home. Obstensibly to finish said work and hand it in tomorrow but as i'm updating this, it doesn't look too likely. And poor Hamlet.

And this is why academia and I don't get along too well. Shit is easy and boring and I can't make myself do it. Oxford? So not going to happen.

Ah well.

*eyes virus scanner*

It occured to me, while swearing at my recently installed virus scanner software for slowing my computer down, that it might be a good idea to, y'know, scan my computer for viruses at times. So I am. And lemme tell you, it's mad. Not only does it appear that I have a couple of viruses and a bunch of Adaware and something else I've never even heard of - when this thing detects something it lets out this screaming siren and a very computery American voice intones,

'Caution! A virus has been detected.'

I swear to God, it sounds like the emergency siren thingy from Star Trek when everything's under attack and people are leaping off their chairs in frighteningly coordinated ways. :o!

Crap night at work. Blah. Y'all don't need to hear me whinge about it. The 'I'd hit it' meme thing in the Bar back room is cracking my shit up and I actually feel quite motivated to do my English homework now, which is of the good. So, coffee, shower, homework and I'll probably chuck someone inna bar inna bit. And sent another app in today, squee!

Ganked from most places I've seen today...

Is there anything that you want to know about me? And how I work?

I am unfailingly honest, for the most part, so go ahead if you're inclined. Anon posting is always on though there's no reason to fear logging on and commenting because I'm not going to think badly of you for asking a question, no matter what it is.

How does one go about getting one of those word-counter things for NaNo? I haven't written anything yet but having one might encourage me a bit, or something. Targets and whatnot.
