fightingthecage: (GO - Buggere Alle)

Some of the comments on the xkcd_rss strip the other day just made my blood boil. Which I am not happy about, as it is detrimental to my good mood.

Example;

So you're bugged. Serves you right for considering yourself the center of the world and alienating readers who aren't in the Americas. The terminology may "bug" you, but it's not as retarded as a map that cuts Asia in half.

...this reader misses the point.

Has Sarah Palin taken over XKCD?

...this reader is just funny.

And the alt-text wins it all. I have lulzed for about four hours now.

Oh God, that annoyed the hell out of me. I got so tired of the "You're IN the West!" comments.

Yes.

And yet "the East" is west of us.

Because it's a GIANT SPHERE, MAKING THESE CATEGORIES COMPLETELY ARBITRARY. WHICH IS THE ENTIRE POINT. *facedesks*

Totally! And then all the people who were like, 'God Americans, the world doesn't revolve around you,' and also the, 'Britain/Europe rules that's why, motherfuckers mwhahaha!'

And I'm just all, 'YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT!'

There's a great episode of The West Wing that goes into the insidious ethnocentrism of maps.

That's what the comic made me think of.

Yep, I remember it. It was fabulous! I think sticking with the map we have now in the interests of not freaking CJ out is a good plan. :)

I maintain that the Giant Wheel of Cheese episodes are the best ones.

They are fabulous! Ahhh, I love Leo and his little speech. Though the season of finale of S2 will forever be my favourite hour of television anywhere, ever. Stunning.

Mrs. Landingham's funeral, Jed's admitted his MS to the nation, there's a tropical storm and he smacks down God in Latin in the National Cathedral. And then in finishes with him deciding to go for a second term while Dire Straits' 'Brothers in Arms' plays in the background. Amazing. gives me chills every time.

Really really was. It rallied after the disaster of S5 though - last two were pretty good.

...man, now I want to go watch the whole thing straight through. Might just hafta.
