You can rest when you are done

So obviously, I have to ramble a bit about the SPN finale. But first I have to say something that just occurred to me - this finale has made me love this show. I liked it before and enjoyed it and would definitely watch all of it to see what happened etc. but I didn't feel any particular deep attachment in more than an occasional or abstract way. Now? I love it. Maybe it's because the boys are split up now and couldn't save each other for once. Maybe it was them singing Bon Jovi together, I don't know. But I'm finally invested and its awesome.
* I was very confused at Dean's reaction to Sam calling Ruby and trying to get her to help. Also at his blatant refusal to let Sam do whatever it took to save him. And then I watched it back this morning and it became clearer. Dean's 'we need to stop being martyrs' speech actually made sense.
* On that note, a shout to Jensen and Jared's acting this ep. It's always good but it was awesomely subtle at times here and I loved it. Also, Sam's hair. Did it get straightened? Dunno but it looked great. Anyway.
* It made me laugh to notice when I watched again that at the bit where the boys and Ruby make a run for the house that Lilith is in (while they're fighting and Ruby has had the knife at her throat) - Sam runs and Dean pauses to let Ruby go ahead of him, even holding the gate open a bit for her. Hee! So polite, even to someone he professes to hate.
* Um, I keep thinking about that hook through Dean's shoulder at the very end. Ugh. Gross. And all he could do was yell for Sam. ):
* I think all week I'd been expecting something more epic, y'know? The end of S2 with the Gate and releasing all the demons etc, that was epic. This was far more low key but I think I like it actually - because this was really more personal. Instead of trying to save everyone, it was just about trying to save Dean and that might have got swallowed up in a huge-type thing.
* The bit that made me go 'huh?' at first was when Lilith's power stopped working over Sam. I think this was because there had obviously been an ad break just before. When her white eyes disappeared and she blinked, she didn't really look like someone who's power had been blocked. It was only after Sam had got up and she tried to put him down again (and I loved the way he just said 'I don't think its working') that I realised that he'd stopped her somehow. Too late though! Augh!
* Seeing Dean get ripped open = not pretty. Even though he looked pretty in Hell. But that bit, with the squirty blood and the heart beating through the chest, was not pretty at all. Fairly gruesome in fact.
* I wish we could actually see a Hound. I guess CGI effects are too expensive/unreal to show and would ruin the mood a bit. I suppose there's something to be said for leaving it to our imaginations anyway.
* Bobby is such love. I hope he gets out of there OK! There are no words for how much I love him.
OK, next season. I think it's pretty telling that Lilith didn't die. So she still has control over Dean and we know that powerful demons can bring people back. We know that Sam can stop her. So! My prediction = Sam tracking her down and getting her to bring Dean back. The only trouble I see with that is logistics. I find it hard to believe that there'll be no Jensen for a large part of the season so that'll have to get resolved fairly quickly. Maybe there'll be a few episodes with Sam doing his thing and maybe 'seeing' Dean, in his imagination, flashbacks, dreams, whatever - that would satisfy the audience's want for some Jensen. But they can't keep that up all year. Then again, Sam finding Lilith quickly and getting Dean back really soon won't have much suspense and would seem far too quick and easy. In an ideal world, Sam would get Dean back in the S4 finale (didn't Kripke say that he had the show planned for four seasons? Getting Dean out of Hell would be a pretty sweet ending) and that would be awesome but again, I don't think the audience would be happy with no Jensen all year.
Of course, I could be utterly wrong on everything and maybe the plot will be utterly different. I can't imagine Sam just giving up on his brother though and he knows Lilith is still alive so it seems pretty obvious he'll go after her. WITH A FIERY VENGEANCE!
OK, enough random thoughts. I can't remember most of what I wanted to say anyway. Bring on S4!
