Thinky Thoughts on SPN finale
The 'Thoughts' of the title really doesn't deserve the capitalisation. I'm really just musing out loud.
I don't get where people say Sam was smiling when he said 'he's coming' at the end. I just re-watched that bit after reading it again and...no. I don't see it. He was breathless and 0_0 about...y'know, the light shining through the floor and bringing Lucifer with it and to me, it just looked like he was trying to get his breath. His mouth quirked briefly but it sure didn't look like a smile to me.
I loved the finale. Really and truly. I was not, however, surprised by it and not because I'm any good at predicting SPN or anything. Basically, because I love the hell out of Good Omens. And the last few (ten?) eps, all I've been able to hear is Aziraphale saying, 'But we can stop it all from happening!' and the voice down the telephone saying, 'We will win, Aziraphale,' followed by, 'the point is not to avoid the war, it is to win it.'
So, yes. When it turned out that that's the way SPN was going, I found myself thinking that I'd have been far more surprised if the angels had been trying to stop it. Not that I'm complaining! Because it's far more interesting this way and anyway, Zacaraiah was far too much of an asshole to be righteous.
God. Sam. Uh. You're going to be beating yourself up about this one for a loooong time, aren't you? Never mind mate, you'll help fix it so don't worry.
S5 - Sam's guilt > Dean's badass killing of Satan? Hard to say. Should be awesome though; I can't wait to see how they do it and how much actual Armageddon they show - anyone know the budget for next year? I want to see cities destroyed, damnit!
Does the whole 'off the reservation' thing mean that Chuck gets to write a whole new testament? Does this mean more Chuck? Inquiring minds need to know!
Better people than I have dissected the whole Sam-Dean-angst-guilt-subtext-emotions shebang, so I won't go into what I thought about it, other to say I loved it and J2 really nailed the acting.
One point I'm confused about though is whether or not Bobby confronting Sam as he left was real. It didn't seem real and then a few seconds after getting knocked out with a rifle, Bobby was showing no bruising, bleeding or ill effects whatsoever. I totally thought it was another of Sam's hallucinations but then it wasn't mentioned as such, so I was confused.
Castiel rocks everything. I ship he and Dean in my head but only for the fact that they would be so pretty together, I think. When I think about actually writing a fic about it, I can't get it to work at all. But their angst fits nicely side by side. I'm very surprised that I've never read anywhere about how Cas has seemed like a stand-in brother while Sam's been floating away but...maybe because that only occured to me a few seconds ago and I'm probably wrong, so it probably isn't true?
Anyway, this post was originally only going to say, no surprise about the angels then! and also, Sam wasn't smiling! and I've done that and more, so I'm shutting up now. Oh but...when's S5 start? September? Tell me it's September!
IMMEDIATE EDIT:
While watching it, I had a brief moment of FUCK YEAH DEAN WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG because as I believe I've mentioned before, I get tired of Sam being the one everyone wants to have shit happen to. But it was shortlived because...well, poor Sam. He's got a lot to live with now.
And there was something else but I forgot, so keep an eye out for ETA II: The Revenge.
